Learn how to make informed choices, discover useful tools and resources, and gain insights to help aging adults and family caregivers start the conversation and plan for a safe, comfortable future at home.

Every First Friday, we invite you to step onto a front porch, pull up a chair, and enjoy casual conversations with old and new friends. No RSVP, no agenda—just good company, light snacks, and a warm sense of belonging.

Join Bluebird Sky Yoga instructor, Eleni Grove, for a gentle yoga class!
Eleni has been a student of yoga for nearing two decades and an instructor since 2014. Eleni loves the crossover of yoga & art. She found yoga as a life-long dancer, and stayed because of the openness and inclusion of the practice and community. Eleni feels passionately about creating accessibility in the modern yoga world - whether in physical postures, in meditative practices, or anything in between. Outside of yoga, Eleni has a supportive partner and two adorable tiny humans, and works as a nonprofit administrator for a health and human services organization.
Beginners welcome and mats are provided free of charge. Masks optional.

"Our Neighborhood, Our Stories” workshops are a multi-part series dedicated to amplifying resident voices through art, conversation, and reflection.
Part One: Community Art Tiles will focus on exploring what a safe neighborhood would look like through the creation of personalized art tiles -- all tiles will be joined together to create a collective art piece.
This is an intergenerational program series for individuals and families of all ages!

Our knitting group meets the first Wednesday of the month at Woodridge library from 6-7:30pm. Do you already have a project you are working on but want a group to support your progress and to chat with while you work? Are you a beginner in knitting or crochet and want to learn? This is an External event hosted by Road Scholar. Movement is essential to aging well — but fitness doesn’t have to mean rigid routines or high-intensity workouts. As part of our "Age Well" series, join movement educator and anti-ageism advocate David Wilson for an uplifting look at how strength, balance and playfulness can support lifelong well-being. David empowers adults of all ages to rediscover movement through curiosity and compassion. Learn how to break past self-imposed limits, embrace new ways to stay active and make fitness an enjoyable, lifelong adventure.
This is an External event hosted by Road Scholar. Those who interact with people living with dementia often struggle with how to react to various challenging situations that may arise. As part of our “Age Well” series, join Beth A. D. Nolan, Chief Public Health Officer and a lead speaker with Teepa Snow’s Positive Approach to Care®, to learn important information about the brain changes that typically occur during the condition of dementia, and how those changes may be contributing to these challenges. Practical strategies and methods of providing support to individuals living with dementia will be covered. Emphasis will be placed on helping learners to approach people with dementia safely and consistently and provide verbal support and responses that improve interactions.

Richard Bausch has said of AND SILENT LEFT THE PLACE: "Elizabeth Bruce‘s characters leap off the page at you; they have vividness and substance, and the result, reading her work, is that one feels the life there." Bruce, the winner of the 2007 Washington Writers‘ Publishing House Fiction Competition, has published in The Washington Post, Writers‘ Roundtable, The Long Short Story, and other publications.

Do you love board games? Join the Greater Brookland Intergenerational Village for our monthly game night!
Our neighborhood game night features board games like Scrabble, Yahtzee, Rummikub, and more for the adults. Your kids are welcome too! For the littler ones, we will have Sorry, Memory, and Connect 4. Beginners welcome. Bring a game of your own (or use ours), grab a drink or a snack, and have fun!
This event is held every second Wednesday of the month at Right Proper Brewery on Girard Street. We’ll plan to play on the patio when the weather is warm, and for cooler or rainy evenings, Right Proper has also offered to host us in the back production space. Right Proper does not sell food but you may bring your own (Tastemakers or Menomale are both nearby options).
The Franciscan Monastery Gardens
Join Marty, Monastery Garden Docent, on a stroll to explore and learn about the historic gardens of the Monastery. You will learn about the history, architecture, plants and friars as you explore the formal upper garden, more natural lower garden and the vegetable garden and bee apiaries behind the monastery.

Safe At Home: Fall Prevention & Recovery
As we head into Fall Prevention Awareness Week, join Elexa Waugh-Quasebarth from Safe at Home – Home Care Partners to learn about fall prevention and recovery. She will cover ways to reduce the risk of injury, how to get up after a fall, how to prepare for fall recovery, preventative exercises, and ways to reduce hazards and risks.

Mahjong is a tile-based game that was developed in the 19th century in China and has spread throughout the world since the early 20th century. It is played by four players. Playing Mahjong can improve memory, attention, and executive function, as well as social interaction, reduced feelings of isolation, and potential for better mental well-being.

Join GBIV as we view "THE TEST" The film is a short documentary that follows the story of Eric Frimpong, a Ghanaian immigrant who works as a maintenance worker at a large retirement center in Virginia. After eight years, Eric dreams of bringing his wife and three children to the US. The final obstacle to their long-awaited reunion is passing the U.S. Citizenship test. Two senior residents, Jill and Carl Miller, journey alongside Eric to tutor him to pass the test that will define his future.
We will also have an opportunity to step into the shoes of a person going for US citizenship by taking a 20 question Civics Practice Test and engage in a discussion after the 15 min film.
