Prudence Wright appears to have a settled, successful life in Washington, D.C., with a devoted husband, a comfortable home, and a past career at McKinsey that allows her to focus on caring for her autistic son. A routine dinner with her husband and one of his new colleagues takes an unsettling turn when the colleague is revealed to be Matshediso, a man from Prudence’s past. His presence transports her back to 1996, when she was a law student interning in South Africa during the Truth and Reconciliation hearings. That time, marked by exposure to the brutal realities of apartheid and by personal trauma, profoundly shaped her sense of justice and morality. Matshediso’s unexpected return and hidden motives force Prudence to confront long-buried truths and reassess her deepest beliefs and resilience.
Moving through time and place, from modern-day Brooklyn and Montego Bay to 1930s Havana and back again, The House of Plain Truth is a journey through generational secrets and a family coming to terms with its past.

Inspired by the author‘s own history, this soulful novel explores a fascinating story of immigration, divided loyalties, and what one woman must sacrifice in her attempt to find home.

Fight for justice and dignity with GBIV and feel a sense of purpose! We will gather to write letters to/for people across the world who have been unjustly imprisoned. This activity is part of an Amnesty International Program that features people on the front lines of climate change fighting to protect their communities from droughts, gas flares, development projects and pollution.

This is a family-friendly event, open to all ages that can write a letter or draw a picture that can offer hope to those who need it the most. For more information see the Amnesty International Write for Rights Campaign here.

Feel free to bring paper, stationary, envelopes, colored pencils, and/or international stamps. We will also have supplies on hand for participant use. Come make a difference, stay for a few minutes or a couple of hours.

Drew is inviting Village members to his Brookland home for a Member Social/Potluck.

Come and meet new neighbors, enjoy familiar faces, and pick up your GBIV tote bag if you haven‘t already! Come say hello and continue to build relationships with your neighbors. All Member Social‘s are potluck optional.

If you’d like to bring something to share, please plan to arrive with it within the first 30 minutes of the social (by 1:30 PM). This helps ensure food is enjoyed during the gathering and doesn’t leave the host with too many leftovers.

Can‘t make this one? Our goal to host one Social Hour each month, rotating to each neighborhood in our Village. Perhaps the next one could be at your home.
