What is this?
Join Brookland neighbors for the first of two art-making sessions designed to facilitate creative self-expression, to relieve stress during these uncertain times, and to foster connection and communication with others.
Artistic talent or experience are NOT required!
Session 1: Create an Inside-Outside Box:
This first event will focus on creating sensory Inside-Outside Boxes. The concept of an Inside-Outside Box provides opportunity for storytelling in addition to exploration of identity. What are the things we show the world? What are the things we keep inside? The sensory aspect is intended to engage the senses and provide mind-body integration.
Provided Materials:
Paper mache boxes, pre-cut images and phrases for collaging, glue sticks.
Note: If you live in greater Brookland, RSVP by January 25th to get free art materials delivered to your home.
Additional Suggested Materials:
Scissors, additional collage materials (old magazines, newspapers, etc.) for whomever is interested in and capable of cutting paper. Participants are invited to identify small personal objects from their surroundings such as stones, cloth, or figurines that they might like to highlight and store.
These sessions will be facilitated by Art Therapy Graduate Program students from George Washington University.
Neighbors are welcome to attend one or both of the events in this series.
