A “village” is a community-based, grassroots organization that helps people age in their own homes within the neighborhood they know and love. With an emphasis on community and connection, villages support neighbors to connect with and take better care of one another—placing a special focus on meeting the needs of seniors. Villages act as a resource hub to link older adults to social activities, volunteer services, and educational events.
DC alone has
13 villages and counting, with the Greater Brookland Intergenerational Village being the first in Ward 5. To learn more about DC Villages, visit
