What is a Red Tent? (an interactive Zoom workshop)
The Red Tent experience recreates sacred moments that acknowledge the stories that "bodies with wombs" hold. Throughout time and throughout various cultures (and usually during women's bleeding times), space was created to allow for intentional gatherings for interpersonal re-alignment and re-affirmation.
A Red Tent is traditionally a physical structure that has more significance than the structure itself. It was a place where Middle Eastern women would go during their cycle to ‘bleed out’ into the ground, rest, rejuvenate and share stories. Usually when women are in close proximity, they cycle together, which made it possible for this type of sacred gathering. Other cultures did not have a Red Tent, but they had a moon lodge, or a lean-to (in the woods), or simply a special tree. In some cultures, the women would go in groups. In others, they would go alone. Always, it was a time of relaxation and reflection.
Tell Your Story
Our bodies tell a story. Some stories make us laugh. Others make us cry. This non-judgmental space allows for one to be covered and cocooned in generations of told and untold stories. In this space, we can begin to share our stories and release any lingering emotions, while recognizing that we are more alike than we are different. Our stories bind us and they bond us.
Womb-body Centered
These womb-body centered sacred circles create a container to discuss all areas that impact minds, bodies and souls. In these circles, topics on the continuum of reproductive health are shared including but not limited to sex, abortion, parenting, not parenting, taboos, and loss, etc.
