In short, Nicole Furnace comes with loads of experience in program and project management, real estate and housing advocacy, diversity, equity, inclusion, fundraising, and community engagement.
Nicole Furnace’s professional path has taken her through many exciting and interesting opportunities in public service - as an Aide at the U.S Supreme Court, a Foreign Affairs Officer at the State Department, an Operations Manager at Lockheed Martin, at Ernst & Young as a Management Consultant, a real estate professional and as a female entrepreneur (twice over!).
Mosty recently, prior to joining Greater Brookland Intergenerational Village (GBIV), she was the Founder and CEO of Roots Consulting Group, where Nicole taught, led and empowered entities to identify, pursue, and achieve personal and organizational diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) goals by conducting anti-racism and allyship coaching.

Nicole has worked nationally with small to mid-size businesses, nonprofits, professional organizations, local governments, founders and CEOs to embed meaningful and lasting change. She is a trusted DEI leader, often called upon as a DEI expert, with a particular focus on real estate, affordable housing, inclusive development and land use policies.
She holds a Masters of Business Administration (MBA) from The University of Texas at Austin and a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from The University of Southern California. She lives in the NE DC neighborhood of Eckington with her spouse, Jeremy, and their three curious kiddos – Mila (8), Jasper (7) and Monroe (5). If she’s not working on a home improvement or renovation project, you can find her experimenting in the kitchen. Feel free to share great recipes, kitchen gadgets, tips and techniques. Especially when it comes to baking – lots of help needed in that area…
