About this event

Join GBIV at Woodridge Library, where we will discuss “Moonrise Over New Jessup” by Jamila Minnicks.

"Moonrise Over New Jessup" by Jamila Minnicks is a compelling novel set in the 1950s, centered around Alice Young, a Black woman who finds herself in the all-Black town of New Jessup, Alabama. The town, isolated from the segregationist policies of the era, presents a vision of Black prosperity and self-sufficiency. As Alice becomes deeply involved in the community, she navigates complex personal and political challenges, exploring themes of love, resilience, and the pursuit of a better life amid racial tensions.
